Skidigate - Screening

The Our World Masset 2013 films were also included in the closing evening of the Haida Gwaii Film Festival! This was held in Skidigate at the Haida Heritage Centre.
Again, the films were well recieved and the audience were touched by the youth speaking the Haida language!

Old Massett - Screening

 As part of the Haida Gwaii Film Festival, the Our World Films were screened at Christian Whites's Longhouse on opening night! It was standing room only! And the films were very well recieved!

All the attending directors (Dorian, Eli, Elijah, Damian and Kendra) said a few words about their film experience.

Masset - Day Three

We decided that the recording studio would be in the Youth Centre Van - it was the quietest place we could find!

Jordyn and Kendra record their Haida.

For lunch we went to the Old Massett Youth Centre. Even though it was under construction it is looking like a super cool place to hang out!

Massett - day two

We have 9 youth and 5 projects! 

Kendra, Jordan and Danielle - The giggle troup! They are doing an I Love Haida Gwaii piece and plan to all speak Haida ! WOOT WOOT! Harmony Williams (Youth Centre Programmer) takes the team to Tow Hill to take pictures at the beach. Thanks Harmony!

Damian is a multi-media artist! He is a songwriter, rapper and very visual - he wrote a rap about staying strong through the teen years that incorporates Haida into it! He will incorporate photography and pixelation.

Elijah is also working on his own and totally keen to animate a traditional tale about when humans turn into the Wild Man.

Elisa looks on as Damian and Elijah write out their stories.

Eli and Dorian went to Dorian's Nani's house to record a story that she always tells Dorian. It is a true story about her father and uncle on a crazy boating trip where her uncle died and her father saved the other fisherman from turning into  a Wild Man.  They will use photoshop to animate the story. Perhaps Nani shall read the story in Haida.

Rayne and Edda are working on their own environmental story about humans polluting the water and an imaginary River Spirit who teaches them a lesson. They will have some warning messages in Haida.

Masset - day one

Day one is all about viewing stories,  gaining inspiration and figuring what story to tell!

Local filmmaker, youth worker and Our World alum, Kiefer Collison, inspires the youth with his film work and filmmaking stories. Inspirational!

Another local filmmaker, Nate Jolley, shows some work and discusses the importance of  pre-production.

Old Massett - Workshop Prep

Our World is so happy to be back in Haida Gwaii! The sunshine and blue sky made us feel welcome!

Initially we were going to conduct the workshop in Old Massett, using the new Youth Centre and the Family Centre but with some re-organization we decided it would be easier for the participants to be right beside their school - The George M Dawson High School - in Masset. So there you go, we start tomorrow!
